Dear Family and Friends,

I recently traveled to Cuernavaca, Mexico, after 44 years to visit my host family who gave me the gift of Spanish. Lucha, the mother, is amazing and strong and will surely live into her 100s, except she is nearly blind due to not having funds for cataract surgery. Her household has been hit by extremely unfortunate circumstances. Both of her daughters' husbands died suddenly in recent years due to cancer and a heart attack, and a granddaughter passed away unexpectedly last year.

In 2019, after a major earthquake, they discovered their roof was fractured and could collapse at any time. As a result of these uncontrollable events, the family is in dire straits. The roof is leaking and the living room cannot be used due to roof structure instability and possible collapse. I am starting a Go Fund Me drive to be able to help pay for just one of Lucha's eyes to be operated on so she can at least have partial vision (=$2000), and I am hoping to raise $10,000 to replace the fractured roof which is terribly unsafe and currently covered with a plastic tarp. The family is currently paying off medical bills accrued by their deceased family members, so any small or large contribution is greatly appreciated.
