Support Lucely's Fight Against Legal Fees

This is a "one of our own" email and fundraising effort. Lucely, our fabulous evening custodian, found out last week that she has 60 days to leave the country with her son Steven, who attends WCES.

Lucely has had citizenship paperwork in the works for herself since she arrived in the country from El Salvador. Her paperwork is in order. Steven came to the US at age 1 year, 3 months. She applied for Steven's citizenship with her lawyer and he waited for over 2 years to start the process. Lucely did not know this and trusted that he was doing what he said he would do.

When she went to court last week for a court date re: Steven's citizenship, she found out that the paperwork still had not been filed, and that day was the last possible day to file the papers. Lucely states that the judge tried to provide help to but there are brand new laws in place to prevent any extensions.

Despite her not being able to move forward with Steven's citizenship, she still must pay her lawyer $7000 to appeal the deportation order. She has 30 days to start the appeal process. In addition, she now faces the tough decision of what to do with her daughter, who was born in the US. She will also the have heavy costs of leaving her job and moving her family.

To make matters worse, she has said that although her mom and sister are in El Salvador, there is no life there for her and her kids.

Lucely said it was ok to share her story. She doesn't mind, and of course, can use all the hugs, prayers and good wishes you can send to her.
