Hey my name is Lucas Smith and I’m 18 years old. I have to have my 80th surgery for colon cancer this month and with being 18 I don’t qualify for a lot of stuff anymore. I have to have my colon, large intestines, and small intestines taken out and then an ostomy bag put on the outside of my stomach. I am very scared for this surgery. They told me and my mom at my last appointment that we beed to rush the surgery before the cancer spreads and then there’s nothing they can do about it. I have already survived hydrocephalus with a VP shunt, stage 3 hepatoblastoma aka liver cancer, I had 2 liver transplants, I had bile duct reconstruction surgery, I had a Desmoid tumor grow in my head, I had a very bad stroke where I stroked the entire back of my brain and they told my mom I was going to die and if I survived I would never breath on my own again walk talk again and I would be completely blind, I have epilepsy, I am deaf, I have had over 70 surgeries, and now up to 80 with the colon cancer surgery. I am worried for my surgery but also for my mom because she’s very stressed and scared about how we are going to pay for everything. The hospital is 2 hours from our house and after we get out of the hospital we have to get a hotel and stay by the hospital for 2 weeks in case something happens I can be right by the hospital. That’s what the doctors want. My mom is trying very hard but I want to help her.
