Support Luca's Brain Surgery

Hi everyone,

My sweet, little Luca went in for his routine 18-month check-up a few weeks ago where the doctor mentioned that she was concerned about his head circumference not following the typical growth curve of a toddler. She mentioned the possibility of him having hydrocephalus, so she wanted him to get a CT scan done at Hershey to further evaluate. However, due to his age, this required him to be put under anesthesia. We went through with the testing and Luca’s doctor called saying that they found no signs of hydrocephalus. However, she informed me that she put an urgent referral in for us to see a neurosurgeon due to other things they found on the scan. We saw a neurosurgeon this past Monday, who diagnosed Luca with sagittal craniosynostosis, and now my little baby will be having brain surgery in October. We see a plastic surgeon next week, who will also be in on his surgery, and then next up will be his surgery. His surgery will consist of cutting his head open, breaking his skull apart where it fused together too early, among other things.

All of this has happened so unexpectedly and so fast. If you’ve met Luca, you would never think this would be happening to him. He’s my happy, smiley, little guy. Luca will only be 19 months when he gets this surgery done. I created this to help with any uncovered medical costs, travel/food, and anything else that comes up as I will be taking time away from work.
