On September 14, my 17-year-old brother, Luca, was hit by a truck while driving his motorbike.

We're grateful to God that Luca survived, but the impact resulted in multiple fractures and a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Breaks along his left wrist, finger, and elbow necessitated surgery, as well as for a double fracture on his jaw. To properly heal, his teeth have been wired together for the next 6-8 weeks. Additionally, he endured injuries including a broken shoulder blade, a small cervical (neck) fracture, a cracked rib, and fractures in his pelvis, right knee cap, and left femur. Damage on his right brachial plexus (nerves) and soft tissue in his neck and shoulder leaves him unable to move his right arm. Luca's TBI is what we worry about most, and only time will unveil its full impact.

After 10 days in the ICU he is now under constant surveillance to ensure his well-being. We are thankful for all the help we have received from first-responders and those at the hospital.

Donations will help for the long recovery ahead including: intensive, daily rehabilitation to make up for the skills he has lost due to the injuries; occupational, physical, and speech therapy, to help compensate for limitations and work with his healing brain; licensed mental support for the following months of work. Luca's journey to healing will also include further medical procedures to address his shoulder and nerve damage in the future.

Dopo 10 giorni in terapia intensiva, ora è sotto costante sorveglianza per garantire il suo benessere. Siamo grati per tutto l'aiuto ricevuto dai soccorritori e dal personale ospedaliero.
