My name is Luca Assad, I am a 19 year old aspiring Chef currently training for the 2026 World Skills competition on behalf of Team Canada. World Skills is a fierce competition that takes place every two years in a different country. Over four days of competition, young experts compete in different skilled trades to represent their country on the world stage.
After having represented George Brown College as the culinary candidate at Skills Ontario 2025 and winning gold, I competed nationally at Skills Canada 2025 and achieved first place. Now, I have the amazing opportunity to compete internationally as the Team Canada Culinary Competitor in Shanghai. I am extremely proud to represent my country doing the thing that I love most.
I have dedicated two years of my life to training in preparation for World Skills. Since September of 2024 I have given my all to this competition and I have no intention of letting up. While completing my commerce degree, in addition to working part time, I will be following an intense training plan that covers all areas of cookery. I will spend this next year cooking and learning under extremely talented Chefs in preparation for the competition.
To continue to train at the highest level, I need to raise money to continue funding my hands-on training. These funds will go toward ingredients, equipment and travel opportunities to assure that I am prepared to the highest degree. Your support will have a direct impact on my training and development as a competitor and as a Chef, and will contribute to my ability to bring home the gold for Canada on the World stage. Thank you for your support!
