This is Peggy my great neice, she is 15 months old. At age 2 weeks she had a stroke for no reason. Mom, my neice Melissa, noticed she wasn't interested in eating and brought her to Children's Hospital in Vancouver, an ultrasound of her head showed she had a huge amount of blood in her ventricles caused by a backflow of blood from a blood clot in one of the large veins in her brain. Peggy began having seizures non stop and had to be resuscitated and put on life support in the Intensive Care Unit. She was initially paralyzed on her left side but started to regain function after a few days in the ICU.
Peggy developed hydrocephalus from the bleeding in her brain, it blocks the flow of fluid in her brain and causes pressure in her brain that can lead to brain damage, and or death. She has a shunt in her brain that helps drain the excess fluid into her abdomen, unfortunately for Peggy the shunt has failed 4 times in 13 months. She has ongoing seizures from all of this brain trauma. We hope she stabilizes in the next little while, in the meantime she is happy and sweet and has even started walking! She is one tough kid.
Peggy's Mom is out of caring for a critically sick child benefit, and has to go back to work. She is a single Mom and Peggy's last surgery was 3 weeks ago, she was last in the Hospital 5 days ago for uncontrolled seizures. We would like to support them by easing some of the stress and anxiety caused by financial burdens. We would also like to raise awareness of this condition. If you are unable to donate financially good thoughts, well wishes, and prayers are more than welcome. We thank you!
