After 13 months on the Cleveland Clinic Transplant List, Louise Durka Forney had her double lung transplant surgery on April 4th, 2024. Louise was released to the Transplant House in Cleveland and remained there for 8 weeks. At that time, Louise returned to her home in Hamburg, New York, to continue her recovery.

On 12/10/2024, Louise was diagnosed with Post Transplant Lympho Proliferatve Disorder, a form of cancer. She started chemotherapy on 01/05/2025 and has had numerous complications. She needed emergency surgery where part of her small intestines were removed because of internal bleeding due to a tear in her intestines. She got an infection that caused a toxic level of ammonia in her body. This led to swelling around her brain, which caused her to have seizures. She had been on a ventilator in the ICU at the Cleveland Clinic since 01/06/2025 fighting for her life. She is now in critically ill condition and has a very difficult road ahead of her. Her three children ages 17, 20, and 22 remain home in Hamburg, NY. Her husband remains by her side at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.
