To my wonderful community, clients, friends, and family,
I am sharing some difficult news: I have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. Earlier this year, I woke up to find a painful lumpy area in one of my breasts. After numerous tests, the Breast Clinic at Ysbyty Gwynedd found high-grade ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) in a 4cm lump. Yesterday, I underwent a single mastectomy.
As someone with medical phobias, this has already been a particularly difficult and challenging road. However, until the pathology report says otherwise, there is a chance that this surgery will be the end of my cancer treatment, leaving me with just the physical rehabilitation to go through.
Dealing with this diagnosis has become a full-time job. Because of this, I’ve had to step away from my workshop. I need to pause making for the next few months to focus fully on my treatment and recovery - both physical and mental.
As many of you know, being a self-employed craftsperson means that when the making stops, the income stops too. I do not have access to sick pay, and I have already been unable to work for a while.
I am setting up this GoFundMe page to raise £2,000. This will help cover my basic daily living expenses, the extra costs involved during this uncertain period, and things like physical therapy. My goal is to keep my business and home afloat while I heal as quickly as possible.
Your support over the years has meant the world to me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has already helped me get through this tough chapter, and to everyone who is able to donate or share this GoFundMe page - your kindness makes a massive difference. I also want to say a big thank you to the wonderful staff at Ysbyty Gwynedd who took such good care of me during my surgery yesterday. Hopefully, I will be able to get back to creating soon.
And ladies - please keep checking your boobs.
