Hello, my name is Dawn Ringenberg, a friend of Lori Kretzinger. Lori was diagnosed with HPV cancer almost 2 years ago. Her treatment consisted of 35 radiation sessions and chemo once a week for 7 weeks, and she had a feeding tube placed as she wasn't able to eat. Amazingly, these treatments did get rid of Lori's cancer, but it damaged her epiglottis and has caused nonstop mucus. She was told she would never be able to eat real food again, which meant a feeding tube for the rest of her life. Lori did seek other opinions from Barnes in St. Louis and Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. Mayo Clinic recommended a laryngectomy in hopes that she would be able to eat soft foods and possibly get rid of the feeding tube. Lori opted to have the surgery knowing she would never be able to talk but thought it was worth it if she could eat real food as the feeding tube is barely sustaining her body's needs. The problem was Mayo Clinic is out of network and has left Lori with some massive medical bills. Lori and I appreciate any assistance.
