Hi my name is Elyse and I humbly ask with the upmost gratitude for your help. My mom Lori was just diagnosed with triple negative stage 2 invasive ductal breast cancer at the age of 58. Cancer is not something we’ve ever encountered in our family, so when we got the initial diagnosis a little less than a month ago we were floored to say the least. Since her routine mammogram that showed the 1st “spot” a month ago, she’s had a diagnostic mammogram, 2 MRI’s and 2 biopsies. Each time showing more “spots” and growth in size now bringing her to at least 5 spots/tumors. This cancer/monster is aggressive to say the least. Doctors have decided to start with a single mastectomy of the affected breast along with radiation, but this may change when we get her Oncotype results in(There’s a lot of hurry up and waiting happening). They may move forward with a double mastectomy after that.
Throughout all of this, bills are starting to pile up and we anticipate a lot more once she undergoes surgery, radiation and possibly short term disability time. It costs close to $1k a month to keep her insurance active while on disability. This is an obvious must!!!
My mom has worked all of her life. At times multiple jobs at a time, trying to take care of my 2 sisters and I. She currently works as a patient access coordinator scheduling many people for the same treatment she’ll be receiving herself. How ironic right? She has a heart of gold, helping multiple people at different stages of her life. Giving them a roof over their heads or a helping hand when she herself barely had a dime to her name. She’s a nana and mama bear to 10+ kids, 9/11 survivor, and lives with her partner a Marine Veteran and Purple Heart recipient in Myrtle Beach.
My mom very rarely asks for help, so I’m asking for her. She maintains her positive strong attitude going into all of this and I want her to keep that same strength and positivity going into this journey. I don’t want her worries about money to dictate her health care. Our family will help her all the we can, but we humbly ask for your assistance to keep my mama alive so she can kick cancer’s ass. Thank you all and FUCK CANCER!!!
