Support Lori's Battle Against Cancer & the Fire

Donation protected
I am updating here, because my update about the fire is not showing up. First of all, this site wants me to tell you that my name is Megan Messerli and Lori and I have been friends since we met in 4th grade in Yukon, OK, and that all money donated will go to helping the Travis family with everything they need from the fire that destroyed their home and Lori's ongoing cancer treatment. Now that that's out of the way:
While Lori and Shane's were at MD Anderson in Houston on Monday morning for her latest chemo treatment, she received a call that their home in Yukon, OK was on fire. They finished her chemo treatment and immediately drove home from Houston. They arrived home late last night, after dark, with plans to go salvage what they could this morning. (Their family salvaged what they could after the fire was put out.)
This morning, Lori received a call from her neighbor informing her that the house had reignited. As if the fire was not enough to deal with, the second fire destroyed what was left that could have possibly been salvaged.
Thankfully, Lori and Shane and their children were not home at the time of the fire, but they have lost virtually everything they did not have with them.
The house was not insured.
They do have a furnished place to stay for the next 3-4 months, but they are in need of everything. The need clothing, bedding, everyday use items.
While dealing with the aftermath of the fire, Lori is still fighting cancer and having to travel back and forth to MD Anderson in Houston for treatment.
On a personal note, I would like to say that Lori has been the most positive, upbeat, faithful person I know through her cancer battle, and even now. She is always cheerful and thanking God for helping her in this battle. Her faith, determination and strength are an inspiration to everyone who knows her.
Anything you can donate will help this family!

And now, the original post about her cancer battle:

Hello friends.
One of my best friends was diagnosed with aggressive triple negative breast cancer last July.
She did 12 rounds of weekly chemo beginning July 31, 2023, and 4 rounds of Red Devil, which she completed on January 11, 2024. She has also had many tests, scans and biopsies.
She was origanally told she needed a double mastectomy, but was later told she could do a lumpectomy and radiation.
Recently, she was told that the cancer has spread to her liver as well.
She is being sent to MD Anderson in Houston in June.
She is currently working half days, when possible with chemo and doctor's appointments, but her doctor would like her to go on disability. Lori has been struggling to keep working, because if she quits her job, she loses her health insurance.
She has finally consented to let me make this Go Fund Me, as the trip to MD Anderson, while a major blessing, will also be a major burden on the family's finances and cause her and her husband to miss more work.
Any amount you can spare will help Lori and her family tremendously. If you cannot help financially, she asks for you to please keep her and her family in your prayers.

Next Stop, MD Anderson

May 30, 2024 by Lori Travis

Hello friends, I have not updated in quite a while, and a lot has happened in the last 4 months. I underwent a lumpectomy on Feb 9th as planned, but instead of 3 lymph nodes, she removed 8. Of the 8 lymph nodes removed they say that 3 had cancer cells, as well as the tissue that was removed from my breast. After a longer than expected recovery that resulted in lymphedema, and several rounds of physical therapy, I was only released to go back to work half days. I was scheduled to begin radiation on March 14th, so the Dr. ordered a PET scan to look at the lymph nodes. This scan showed a lesion on my liver, and I was met with additional scans, and a liver biopsy to determine what it was. The biopsy came back showing cancer, and radiation was put on hold. I started a new chemo on April 1, and did 2 rounds. I was able to take a trip a week after the 2nd treatment to visit my oldest son, Logan, and attend his graduation from A school in Charleston SC, and then help him begin his move to St. Petersburg, FL. It was nice to escape reality for a week, but was also the reason I had not made these new findings public, as we had not yet told him. When I got back I had an appointment with my oncologist. I noticed a small knot near the scar from my lumpectomy, so she ordered a CT scan with contrast to look at it, as well as my liver. She told me that there were no new developments, but that the lesion was still on my liver, and she was referring me to MD Anderson in Houston. I had a follow-up appointment with my surgeon on May 22nd. She was concerned about the knot, even though my oncologist said it showed nothing on the and ordered me a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound, which resulted in another biopsy. This too showed cancer cells. My family will be traveling to MD Anderson in Houston in a few weeks, and I am hoping that they can give me a successful treatment plan. I have been praying for God to direct me to the right Doctors, and I was excited to see that the Houston Dr. not only specializes in Triple Negative Breast Cancer(my specific diagnosis), but is also head of the research at TU for TNBC as well. I am not asking for meals, but if you would be willing to help in any way with donations, gift cards for restaurants in the Houston area, and most importantly continued prayers, that would be much appreciated. I do not have sick pay, and I am working very limited hours, and Shane is self employed, and has missed a lot of work taking care of me and the kids so traveling is not in the budget.( I am including a recent picture to show you my hair growth, which shocked the oncologist due to the April Chemo that should have made it fall out, but didn't).
