Help Lori Vanderhorden recover from a devastating collision

Donation protected
Lori Vanderhorden (nee Hickey) is currently in the hospital recovering from a devastating head-on collision that occurred on the 401 early last week.

On Tuesday, June 25, Lori was heading eastbound on the 401 from Odessa to pick up a trailer hitch from a friend in Kingston. As she prepared to exit at Hwy 38/Gardener's Road, a white vehicle, traveling at high speed in the wrong direction, struck her head-on. Tragically, the driver of the other vehicle succumbed to her injuries later that evening. The reason for her driving in the wrong direction remains unknown.

Lori's large family, particularly her 3 children, Caleb, Macey and Riley, are eternally grateful that Lori's life was spared. Special thanks go to the individuals who first arrived at the scene, provided reassurance, cared for her dog, and to the first responders who used the jaws of life to extricate her from the vehicle.

Lori sustained significant injuries, including a concussion, a broken foot, a severely sprained foot, several detached tendons, a fractured sternum, broken ribs, and numerous bruises and contusions. The physical pain, along with the mental and emotional anguish she is enduring, is unimaginable.

Before the accident, Lori was in excellent physical condition. An avid outdoors enthusiast, she loved running, hiking, kayaking, soccer, paddle boarding, skiing, playing pickleball and more. She had recently (in the past 2.5 months) completed two half-marathons and was training for a third. Lori's strength, determination, and positivity will undoubtedly aid her recovery, but it will take months of rehabilitation, and it is uncertain if she will fully regain her previous athletic abilities.

As a single mother of three children in post-secondary education, Lori faces numerous financial obligations. As a self-employed realtor, she will have no income during her recovery. The Kingston Real Estate Agents have started a private fundraiser, providing immediate relief, and Lori is profoundly grateful to work among such an incredible team of professionals.

We ask for your support to help alleviate Lori's financial burden, allowing her to focus on regaining her strength and independence. Every contribution is deeply appreciated.

The police are still actively investigating the accident, and no official report has been filed yet. Initial reports can be found here: https://www.kingstonist.com/news/serious-collision-closes-eastbound-highway-401-in-kingston/
