My name is Lori, and I’m asking for help during the most devastating period of my life. Over the last few years, I survived a combination of losses and traumas that no one could withstand alone: the death of both of my parents, unsafe housing, displacement, harassment, the theft of my car, the collapse of my income, and repeated attacks on my service dog, Bodhi.I am not someone who gives up easily. I’ve worked my entire life, maintained perfect credit, and supported myself independently. But the events that unfolded were bigger than any one person could endure, especially while disabled and grieving.

⭐ 21 Years at La Playa — and a Constructive EvictionFor 21 years, La Playa Street was my home. After my stroke, harassment escalated. Management monitored me, intimidated me, destabilized my housing, and made the environment so hostile that I was effectively forced out. This is called constructive eviction — when a tenant is pushed out through hostility rather than a legal process.I didn’t choose to leave.

I was pushed out while disabled, grieving, and financially vulnerable.

⭐ The Mission Apartment — and Losing My MotherI moved into the Mission and lived there for six months. I was recovering from years of harassment, rebuilding my pet‑sitting work, managing aphasia from my stroke, and caring for Bodhi. Then my mother fell in Washington State. I hadn’t seen her in nine years because I couldn’t afford to travel. When she fell, I had to choose between keeping my apartment or being with her. I chose my mother.Driving to Washington meant losing:my apartmentmy incomemy belongingsmy stabilityI watched my mother die.

When I returned to California, I had no home, no belongings, and no financial safety net.

⭐ Displacement and the Tenderloin PlacementI was placed into a tiny studio in the Tenderloin through a housing lottery. I didn’t choose the neighborhood. I entered the building already carrying grief, trauma, disability, exhaustion, and financial collapse.Within days:my car was towed ($700)three days later, my car was stolenmy transportation, independence, and work capacity disappeared overnightI had to rely on Uber, Lyft, and Zipcar — not by choice, but by necessity.

I lost clients, income, and stability.

My perfect credit was destroyed by circumstances, not irresponsibility.Parking was given to me, then taken away, then given again, then taken away again — each change triggering panic and PTSD because I had already lost my car once.

⭐ Bodhi’s Trauma and the Loss of His Service‑Dog FunctioningBodhi had already been hit by a car and suffered neurological trauma. Then inside the building, he was attacked multiple times. His trauma worsened, his dependence increased, and he lost his ability to perform his service‑dog tasks. He became:terrified of dogsunable to be left aloneanxious to the point of excessive water intakefearful of elevatorsin need of constant bathroom breaksfully dependent on meI became the caregiver for my service dog — a role reversal that made daily life and disability management extremely difficult.

⭐ Harassment, Retaliation, and Unsafe HousingInside the building, I experienced one‑directional harassment from another tenant. I did not feel safe in my own home. This created:hypervigilanceinability to sleepinability to regulate Bodhiinability to recoverconstant fear and instabilityMy home became another trauma site.

⭐ The Result: Collapse Caused by Trauma — Not IrresponsibilityWhen you combine:losing my homelosing both parentslosing my belongingslosing my carlosing my parkinglosing my safetylosing my independencelosing my worklosing my creditdog attacksharassmentretaliationdisabilitytraumagriefexhaustionThe result is collapse caused by trauma — not irresponsibility.I had perfect credit before I walked into that building.

The circumstances destroyed my stability, not my choices.I was surviving catastrophic loss while disabled, caring for a traumatized service dog, navigating unsafe housing, enduring harassment, recovering from transportation loss, and carrying two nervous systems without support. My requests for help were reasonable, necessary, and proportionate.

⭐ Why I’m Asking for Help NowI’m trying to rebuild from:the grief of losing both parentsunsafe housingdisplacementdisability traumaBodhi’s attacksfinancial collapseloss of incomeloss of transportationI’m doing everything I can, but I can’t do this alone.
