Hi, my name is Hailey Rumbles, and I am fundraising for my mom, Lori Gullickson Bartoszewski. In January 2025, after what should have been routine preventative care, our family was blindsided by her Stage IV cancer diagnosis.
A devoted wife, mother of two, and lifelong caregiver, my mom has always been the center of our family — the one who shows up, the one who listens. She is the kind of person who gives freely, without hesitation; she has always been empathetic, loving, and endlessly supportive. If someone she loves is struggling, she is the first to offer help, guidance, and comfort. Caring for others has always been the heart of who she is.
Her caregiving extended far beyond our immediate family. For eight years, my mom was the primary caregiver for my grandmother, who lived with dementia. The first five years were part-time, but the last three were full-time — she even changed jobs so she could care for her in our home. She remained by my grandma’s side through every step of that difficult journey, right up until her passing in 2021. It was an act of love that took an unimaginable amount of strength, patience, and sacrifice, and it is one of the clearest reflections of who my mom is at her core.
Alongside loving her family, she finds joy in things that reflect her warmth and adventurous spirit – surrounding herself with animals (one of her greatest passions), baking and cooking, making music, and exploring nature. She especially loves traveling through the west and southwest; hiking, camping, and swimming are some favorite activities. Whether in Montana, Utah, Arizona, South Dakota, or even right here in Indiana, she has always felt most at home outdoors.
Her love for people has always shown through in her work as well. For the last six and a half years, she has been a school bus driver – beloved by the kids on her route and deeply trusted by their parents. In the summers, she ran a thriving swim lesson business here in Northwest Indiana. Teaching children brought her tremendous joy and purpose, and her passion made the business grow so quickly that it soon had a waiting list. Being forced to set it aside after her diagnosis was one of the many painful realities she has faced this year.
Since January, she has faced challenge after challenge with a strength that humbles all of us. Even on the hardest days, she meets each obstacle quietly but fiercely, doing everything she can to stay present and to hold onto the things she loves. Through it all, she has kept working full-time to maintain her income and insurance — a responsibility she shoulders even now, with more strength than she’ll ever admit. Her faith remains strong, and we pray daily for God’s grace, healing, and guidance through every step of this journey.
This unexpected diagnosis has brought significant financial strain. Even with insurance, the out-of-pocket medical expenses, medications and treatments, and changes in income have quickly become overwhelming. The reality of a serious illness like this is that life doesn’t pause when we need it to — bills and responsibilities continue, and the burdens of this season have grown far beyond what one family can reasonably manage.
That is why I created this fundraiser — to help support my mom in a tangible way during a time when she has already given so much of herself to so many others. My hope is simply to ease some of the financial pressure so she can focus on her health, her comfort, and her time with the people she loves.
If you feel moved to contribute — whether through a donation, sharing this page, continued prayer, or simply offering a message of support — it would mean more than words can express. Every form of help lightens the load she carries.
Thank you for your prayers, thank you for caring, and thank you for standing with our family.
With love,
Hailey
