Mama Lori & Papa Randy Ferreira's Fight Against Cancer

This GoFundMe is being organized on behalf of Lori Ann Ferreira also known as “Mama Lori” and her husband, Randolph or other known as "Randy" Ferreira. The organizers for this GoFundMe account is

It is with heavy hearts to share that Mama Lori was diagnosed with a very rare form & one of the most aggressive cancer “Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer”. Mama Lori is currently at Stage 4”. Which has now spread from her thyroid into her lymph nodes. Despite this, Mama Lori remains resilient, but the battle ahead is challenging. She has always been so brave & strong no matter what the struggle, she is always in good spirits.

From all the information we have been taking in, we understand that Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer (ATC) has a low survival rate past 3-6 months and a full survival rate of 40-60% . It is extremely aggressive and the location in her throat made eating, drinking, and breathing very difficult for her. With that said, the family has been gathering regularly to pray and spend as much quality time as we can on a daily basis with Mama.

Today, Mama Lori is experiencing many complications with difficulty breathing due to the rapid growth of this tumor and subsequent swelling and enlarging of the neck area which is a part of her cancer. Mama Lori has had to undergo multiple surgeries to help alleviate these symptoms and pains. Our main goal is to relieve these problems so we can move forward with an action plan. 

To break it all down It all started after a kidney failure around Thanksgiving last year when Mama Lori’s doctor ran a CTSCAN from her neck to her bottoms and saw something very questionable so Doc ordered a PETSCAN and that’s when they found the nodules which had spread from her thyroid and to her lymph nodes. To determine the stage doctor ordered a needle biopsy around Valentine’s but that plan failed because it just didn’t provide enough sample. So doctor then ended up performing a surgery for a small incisional biopsy to remove enough sample and confirm the current stage that Mama Lori was at. After a few days Mama wasn’t recovering as she should have….doc had proceeded to numb the area of where it was swollen and performed a removal of fluids by making another small incision to help push out any fluid to help drain this completely. Next course of action for Mama Lori was to have a drain tube inserted to help drain these fluids properly due to fluid build up. After a few days passed by again failure, Mama Lori could not breathe and there way too much pressure once again. They removed the drain tube and ordered a JP Drain which has been surgically inserted and finally is now allowing more fluid to drain properly from her thyroid. So far, this procedure is working for Mama Lori.

As Mama Lori fights this aggressive illness, we want to ensure that she can focus on her health without worrying about the financial burden of personal bills and medications. This is where we need your help.

CURRENT UPDATES ON MAMA LORI:

2/28 - Mama Lori had a feeding tube surgically inserted into her abdomen to help feed and administer any medicine to help treat her cancer.

she could not eat and she was in extreme pain but has been strong through this recovery.

3/1 - Mama Lori started her cancer treatment. She is now currently treating her tumors with Dabrafenib and Trametinib together to help shrink the tumor. The side effects should not be as harsh because Mama is taking these in conjunction with minimal side effects.

Doctors’s plan is to keep the feeding tube until the tumor has shrunk significantly smaller and safe for Doctor to start surgery of removal. The tube is the only way to administer medication to Mama Lori. She has a hard time swallowing. She is only able to swallow soft foods like apple sauce, pudding, etc. and drink liquid but everything else has to be administered through the feeding tube.
