Hello everyone, I am starting this GoFundMe for my parents. I know that the last few years have been really hard for everyone, but the last few years have been especially hard for them financially because they are on a fixed income due to my dad being disabled.
It all started in July of 2022 when my dad, Woody, had a massive heart attack and died on us, but thankfully they were able to get him back. He still ended up on life support for 16 days, then another 29 days in the Cardiac CCU. Just a year later, just before Christmas, my mom, Lori, fell and broke her fibula and tibia and ended up in Eastern Maine for a month, which put a huge hardship on the family because she is my dad's primary caretaker. When she came home, she wasn’t supposed to do a lot, but she still continued to take care of my dad along with trying to heal herself. If breaking her leg wasn’t enough, in April of 2024, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. Over the last two years, she has fought like a champion from chemo multiple days a week, surgery to remove the tumor, and radiation therapy, all while still taking care of things around the house and my dad. She is finally in remission and thought that life was going to go back to normal until Sunday, January 10, 2026.
On Sunday the 10th, my mom called me saying something was wrong with my dad. When I got to the house, his catheter bag was full of blood, and the man that refuses to go by ambulance for anything, even when he was having a heart attack, asked me multiple times to call the ambulance because something was wrong. On the way to Redington, he took a turn for the worse. After being placed on a ventilator at Redington, he was taken by Lifeflight Ground to Eastern Maine Medical Center. The next 48 hours have changed our family’s life forever. Dad started declining very quickly Monday night. We decided to go home to try to get some sleep. We were only home for about 45 minutes when the call came in saying we needed to rush back to Bangor because they didn’t know if he was going to make it through the night. When we got there, the doctor told us that my dad was in multi-system failure and at any time his heart could stop.
On January 13th at 6:47, my dad passed away with my mom, brother, and other family by his side. It is hard on us kids, but it is even harder for my mom. She lost her life partner, the man she has been married to for 42 years, and never could have imagined losing at the age of 64. I am creating this GoFundMe to help my mom. She is on a very tight fixed income already. Not only did she lose the love of her life, but now she is going to lose the money that my dad got every month, which is going to make things very hard for her. This GoFundMe is going to help her be able to take care of things while she tries to navigate the loss of my dad. Their home is in need of many repairs, the biggest of which being that they need a new roof. My mom is one of the most selfless people I know, and she is not the type of person to ask for help, but she could really use a break and a little help right now as she doesn’t know how she is going to survive financially through this.
Any little bit would help to ease a little bit of the stress and financial struggles she is currently going through. Our family is forever grateful for any help that we get right now.
