Support Lorenza Butler's 65th BD and Resilient Journey!

Anyone who has known Lorenza Butler, Jr., the amazing handicapped Publisher Emeritus of the Houston Informer and Texas Freeman Newspaper, will not easily forget him.

Lorenza continues to astonish normal humans with his sparkling personality and amazing resilience.

Over 20 years ago, Publisher Butler broke his neck in two places and, though he was able to walk for a while, during the past 10 years that ability has escaped him. But he is a "force of nature" that refuses to give up. Despite the fact that he is now a full-fledged quadriplegic, still recovering from a debilitating UTI infection that caused severe memory loss during the past 15 months, he is slowly fighting back. With the death 2 years ago of his father, the charismatic Coach Butler, Lorenza lost most of his support at home and due to other circumstances, has had his SSI benefits drastically cut.

Publisher Butler is currently being maintained at his father's home through the goodness and generosity of friends. The publisher didn't think he would actually be alive to celebrate his 65th birthday—and it has been touch and go for the past few years (he received last rites from the priest 3 times!). He has now asked us to organize a birthday celebration for him. We are stretched thin, but hope many of you can help make it happen. Any funds left over from the party will be used to pay his $1,000+ monthly mortgage and help us keep him as comfortable as possible under the circumstances.
