Support Lorena’s Battle with Uterine Sarcoma

My name is Kristen and I'm Lorena's daughter.

I have made a GoFundMe for her but was under the impression that we didn't need it anymore. Things have made an unexpected turn, and my mom's cancer journey will be a lot longer than we anticipated.

My mom has been going through concerning symptoms since last year. We didn't think anything of it at the time. As time went on, things started to escalate a bit. So, she went ahead and started getting tests done earlier this year in February/March because the symptoms were only getting worse.

After many tests, the results were in. We were scared yet eager to know what exactly was going on. On March 26th, the doctor walked in and said, "I'm so sorry, but you have Uterine Sarcoma" and began to explain it is more aggressive than endometrial cancer and has a poorer prognosis. As we were leaving the office with devastating news, we started looking for a second opinion.

Thankfully, we found another doctor willing to help us. She went through many more tests and procedures. On April 4th, she received a diagnosis of Cervical Cancer type 1a2. At this point, she is going through the steps to complete the process of oncology referrals and doctor visits.

About a month ago, they scheduled her for a Radical Hysterectomy. We were so excited. THIS was supposed to be the beginning of the end. She was so anxious about getting it over with. At this appointment, she was told she has absolutely nothing to worry about and that the cancer WILL be removed.

She was scheduled for a Radical Hysterectomy this past Monday, 8/4. They put her under, intubated her, then checked her. At that moment, the doctor decided not to move forward with surgery. Upon his findings, the cancer has spread and is now stage 3, which cannot be removed with surgery and will need a more aggressive treatment since we now understand how aggressive it is. As someone that works in the medical field, they should've checked her first before moving forward with the prep for surgery. They woke her up once they changed their minds. She asked them, "How did the surgery go?" and as soon as they told her it didn't happen, they gave her the worst panic attack. I truly feel like that could've been handled better and for that, I'm leaning towards getting her a third opinion.

This GoFundMe is to help with medical expenses, time off work, and personal needs. She is out of work, and I am currently working part-time/a single mom. We're doing everything we can, but right now, we truly need your support. Every donation, share, and kind word make a difference.

We're deeply grateful to everyone who supported our last GoFundMe; your generosity carried us through some of our hardest days. The fight isn't over, and we're not giving up.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
