Hello, my name is Lorena. I am a single mother and the sole provider for my household.

My son Gibby lives with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a progressive condition that requires constant care and support. Gibby always needs my help, and I am his primary caregiver at all times.

I haven't been able to work for weeks because, prior to this hospitalization, Gibby suffered fractures in his back, which forced us into bed rest and medical care.

Recently, he suffered another fracture and was hospitalized for surgery; the doctors have informed us that his recovery will take several more weeks, then months for full recovery.

Throughout this time, I haven't been able to return to work because I am by his side day and night—first accompanying him through his back fracture recovery, now in the hospital, and later in rehabilitation.
