Support Bill and Cindy Weed's Medical Journey

Donation protected
We have created this GoFundMe to support our dear friends, Bill and Cindy Weed, whose lives were unexpectedly upended this fall.

Bill and Cindy are beloved in the Cody community and have lived in the same historic house in town for 48 years. Cindy was a special education teacher in Park County for 36 years, and Bill was most recently working at Ace Hardware. You may have been helped by Bill at Ace at some point during his years there -- you would certainly remember his kindness and smile. The two of them also rescue German Shepherds and have raised four wonderful children together.

Bill's Story:

Bill was diagnosed with renal failure and recently started dialysis. It was a serious lifestyle change that he accepted as well as one can accept something like that. He was ready to move on with life except for one pesky ailment: Bill had also been suffering from what appeared to be a badly swollen toe.

Not a big deal? Nope, BIG DEAL. The emergency room here in Cody recognized it as the serious emergency it was and immediately sent Bill to Billings where sepsis was rapidly diagnosed. In response to this emergency, the toe was removed as was the metatarsal bone, just to be safe.

Bill bravely and quickly digested the major life changes of renal failure and starting dialysis (if it's even possible to digest those things quickly), as the sepsis and foot became center stage.

Unfortunately, the foot did not heal after the initial amputation, so, in order to save Bill’s life, his doctors made the bold decision to amputate his leg from the knee down.

It was a big blow for someone who has always enjoyed a very active life of biking, kayaking, and hiking, but Bill has an incredibly strong spirit and is rehabilitating at the Rehabilitation Hospital of Montana.

His amazing attitude and work ethic are an example to others.

Cindy's Story:

Many of you may be aware that eight years ago Cindy was diagnosed with a rare form of thyroid cancer. At the time, she was given two to five years to live, but took that number as a challenge and started participating in new treatments and drug trials.

“Give me one more shot, I’ll give it all I got!” she’d tell them in true Wyoming cowgirl style!

Upon receiving her diagnosis, she headed directly to Mayo Clinic and has returned every three months since. Cindy figures she’s been there about 32 times. Or more.

How We Can Help:

Starting eight years ago with Cindy's life-changing diagnosis and frequent trips to Mayo Clinic, she and Bill have worked tirelessly to manage all of the expenses on their own. But with both of them now working through new health and lifestyle challenges each day, they have reached a critical point in which they need our help. At this time, they need extra funds for some serious home modifications, mounting insurance co-pays, and essential adaptive equipment for Bill.

Your support, whether through donations, kind words, or prayers, means the world to them. They are also sharing their story in hopes of raising awareness about the dangers of sepsis, a potentially life-threatening condition. If you notice non-healing sores or unusual inflammation, don’t hesitate to bring it to your doctor’s attention.

If you can contribute to easing the challenges Bill and Cindy face as they adapt to this new chapter in their lives, it would be deeply appreciated. Please don't hesitate to reach out to Coletta or me with any questions, and please feel free to share this fundraiser with others.
