Here is Long Bean's story summarized. A week ago today, I found her as a severely neglected, paralyzed stray on the streets of Georgia while traveling. I scooped her lil puppy ass up and raised the money overnight to get her seen by specialists and have immediate surgery at the Manhattan, KS teaching hospital. During her pre-op tests, they discovered the neglect was much worse than anyone could imagine and that she had been paralyzed for over a month. She could not have the surgery due to her spinal injury calcifying over. If she did, it would kill her or paralyze her entire body, including her front legs.
Defeated, heartbroken, and despite the surgeon’s recommendation of euthanasia, I brought her home. She has another 4 weeks of rest so her body can continue to heal around the injury, and after that, she will have her wheelchair plus intensive physical therapy. She has 0 use of her backend and will need to be cared for in every way possible for the rest of her life, including manual extraction of her urine and feces several times a day by her caregiver (me) . Anyways! I love her and I've actually done this before with a 2-legged senior rescue dog I adopted and cared for till the end from 2020-2024.
Bean was absolutely meant to come into my life specifically.
Donations will be put aside for her lifelong care, rehab, and vet visits.
From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU for being here, caring for, and loving her with me.
