Around February in 2023, Loki walked ( literally) into our lives without warning. As artists and filmmakers we are constantly on the go and working our hardest to provide a good life for our loved ones.
Besides work and charity work for Animal Rights and UNICEF for every child, we are just two dedicated parents to our amazing rescued fur babies that have brought so much joy to our lives during stressful times.
We named this sweet dog Loki because he looked like a variant of our other dog Logan. When we rescued him, he was in terrible, unimaginable shape. His previous owner neglected and mistreated him so much. He was immediately taken to the vet and diagnosed with stage 5 ( yes, stage 5) periodontal disease, his mouth was that rotten and we had to take immediate action for surgery to stop the spreading. We did not know if he would survive. But like the fighter he is, he pushed through.
Ever since the surgery , Loki became one of the sweetest “puppy” to anyone who has ever met him. We called him Benjamin Button dog because we don’t know his exact age, but he has such a zest for life unlike anyone has ever seen, and our family absolutely love him for the way he is. He gave me a brand new perspective on senior dogs and how important it is for people to understand and care for them till the very end. He lives in the moment and is constantly grateful for everything, a sight that is often lost in humanity. He never gives up and never stop being grateful .
In December 2023 he developed pneumonia and would not stop coughing. Upon further investigation he was diagnosed with two masses in his lungs and Stage IV pulmonary carcinoma involving L & R caudal lung lobes. In effort to treat and make him more comfortable, we started the treatment of targeted radiation and target chemotherapy.
This little fighter not only fought it through, but began to have even more appetite for life.. he loves cuddles with his brothers, car rides, long walks in the park, giving his awkward kisses with no teeth, and being a devoted shadow and loving support to us at all times. This little guys has taught me so much about resilience and we knew he deserve more than the life he had for the last 10+ years under horrible ownership. He provides us with so much love every single day. He simply loves living and giving back. Anyone meeting him can never imagine the battles he is going through, because he is so gentle and sweet and never shows that he’s suffering. I think deep down inside, he is worrying about hurting us more than himself.
Despite the treatments and fatigue, Loki thrived for a few months , we took him everywhere with his brothers and he loved every single minute of it.
Everything was managed and under control for months until this December when we found a large mass on his chin that seemed to developed overnight. Upon investigation he has developed a different new cancer - Metastatic Oral Melanoma. His body has not been kind to him and he’s now battling two aggressive cancers..
Within days, his life and ours have turned completely upside down. It has been taking a huge toll on us mentally and physically.. I knew this day would inevitable come, but I feel broken and cannot bare to suffer more loss this year. As a private person it took me a lot of courage to share these thoughts.. but I hope whoever is reading this understand.
We just want to make his final weeks (hopefully months) as comfortable as possible. Due to his special circumstances with difficult repair oronasal fistula and two simultaneous aggressive cancers, the medical treatments involving targeting radiation and other therapies have become difficult to manage. For these few weeks, we just want him to be as comfortable as possible as that is what he deserves.
We will use donations on easing his pain for his remaining days , but will call the inevitable and difficult decision when it is needed.
Any remains from this donation will go to help shelter dogs (especially abandoned senior dogs) or any dogs in need of urgent care, as well as continuing my work in Asia to stop the dog meat trade.
Thank you for reading this and care about our angel Loki. I also hope this story inspires people to adopt animals in need.. especially senior dogs that are often abandoned at shelters they are the sweetest dogs you’ll ever meet and deserve better.
