My heart is heavy this morning. My dad texted me to say that his new restaurant off Diamond Hill was broken into and robbed. He’s already been struggling as a new small business owner, trying so hard to keep things afloat with very little foot traffic.

When he sold his restaurant in Providence, his plan was to finally retire — he’s worked his whole life and deserved that rest. But with the rising cost of living, he had to open another restaurant just to make ends meet. He’s one of the hardest-working people I know, someone who started with nothing and built everything through dedication and heart.

Some of the dishes he serves are ones he dreamed about tasting as a Lao child growing up during the Vietnam War — meals he could only imagine back then, and finally got to try after coming to America. Cooking and sharing these dishes has always been his way of expressing gratitude and love, and it breaks my heart that he’s facing so many challenges doing what he loves most.

It’s been tough getting the word out, despite passing out menus throughout the community, and now he's facing this.
