Aaina and her boyfriend Sprung have their small food-forest farm in Amity (East Westmoreland, Jamaica).

Hurricane Melissa hit their area extremely hard, with the eye of the storm passing directly over their plot. They urgently need basic supplies such as clean water, food, and hygiene items, as well as tools to repair buildings and clean up the land.

For the farmers in this region, it is not only about damaged houses — their entire income from fruit trees like coconut and banana palms is gone. More than 90% of the coconut trees are on the ground, and most branches from the remaining fruit trees are broken. Without the tree canopy, the land is now exposed to extreme heat during dry periods, making recovery even more difficult.

Nearly half of all building structures were destroyed — roofs torn off, windows shattered, and structures collapsed. Homes, chicken houses, storage sheds, and work areas are badly damaged or completely gone. Dave’s farm alone lost around 600 chickens.

In their remote area, help is limited, and they are facing the cleanup largely on their own. The fields are covered in fallen trunks, broken stems, and debris. Young trees that survived cannot grow until everything is cleared.

Electricity and internet are still unstable, so communication is difficult. I am helping Aaina, Sprung, and the other farmers in the village by managing this GoFundMe on their behalf. As a long-time friend of Aaina, I am glad to support her and her community, even from far away here in Austria. All funds will go directly to her, so she can share them with the other farmers in the area.

Your help will allow them to recover their land, rebuild their farms, and continue producing food for the future. Every contribution truly makes a difference. It will take years before younger trees begin producing fruit again, and the farmers are searching for new income options to get through this period. But they cannot rebuild alone.
