Help Feed Local Families in Lake Atitlan - COV-19
This fund has been put together to support the local families in San Juan La Laguna, Guatemala who have been greatly affected by the COV-19 pandemic
San Juan is a traditional artisan Mayan village in Lake Atitlan, where Wild:ness is based in Guatemala and Sami has come to call her second home. Anyone who has been on a trip with Sami would have visited this village and the beautiful people there. Sami has strong local connections, having visiting there and lived part time for these past 7 years. It is where she is also in the process of building a local community center
Many of the people in San Juan are reliant on the day trippers who come in to purchase local crafts, coffee & locally produced textiles. With the country being in lock-down, this is not a possibility. There is a daily curfew from 4pm-4am, no public transport to travel in between towns and many people having had no work or salaries for months now. It is a place where people very much live day to day, with no savings and survival is a very real concern
San Juan has 25,000 families and a donation of $25 will feed a family of 6 for 2 weeks (data supplied by local government office) Your funds will help to buy maize (to make tortillas), rice, eggs, black beans and sugar for each family supported. We intend to support 300 families with some funds available for medical supplies and emergencies. If we are able to reach this goal, it would be just scratching the surface. Sami works with a strong and trusted local contact, Juan Jose, who is going to be personally distributing the supplies locally. He is compiling a list of those most in need
Please donate and help support these beautiful and humble people. Any amount is greatly appreciated and will go directly to supporting the local people of San Juan. Thank you
