I’ve known Liz for 25 years, ever since I met her at Western Colorado University as a non-traditional student. She was my academic advisor, but quickly became a lifelong friend. Liz often jokes that once you get her as an academic advisor, she becomes your advisor for life—and it’s true. Her unwavering support and wisdom have guided me and so many others through life’s challenges.
This past November, Liz was diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer. After her first chemotherapy treatment in January, she was hospitalized to help manage her pain and rebuild her strength. The journey ahead is daunting, as we work to get her strong and comfortable enough to return home to her little shack on the alley. Once there, she’ll need 24/7 care as she works toward her goal of regaining independence. The costs of palliative care and in-home support are significant, and the financial burden is heavy.
Liz has lived in the valley for over 40 years, arriving from England and quickly becoming a beloved member of the community. In her 20 years at Western, she’s made a meaningful impact on thousands of lives—students, athletes, and even the children of her former advisees. Her steadfast commitment, generosity, and sense of humor have touched generations. I would not be here today, asking for your help, if it weren’t for the love, support, and true generosity Liz has given to so many, myself included. Please consider supporting Liz now, so she can receive the care she needs and continue to inspire those around her.
