The Fight for a Son

Hello everyone,

I’m creating this fundraiser for my sister-in-law, Lizabel, who is currently appealing a court order that has granted the father of her child full custody of her son, Logan. She is in the hardest battle of her life, but she remains determined.

Lizabel is a hardworking, loving, and capable mother who is seeking justice in a system that has already wronged her and, unfortunately, taken her child from her arms. She is doing everything in her power to fight for her son, but she needs help.

Any donations would be tremendously appreciated, as legal fees and related services are both costly and frequent. Attached below is her personal letter, written in her own words.

Thank you all for taking the time out of your day to read this.

From a Mother Fighting for Her Son
My name is Lizabel Beltran. I am a mother fighting for my son, Logan Cooper—a bright, loving,
and intelligent boy who was abruptly taken from the only safe and stable home he has ever
known.
Since Logan was just one month old, his father has subjected me to continuous court
proceedings, forcing ongoing litigation every few months. During this time, I endured multiple
incidents of domestic violence. In one instance, Logan’s father threw me to the ground while I
was holding our infant son, refusing to let me go. In another, he pulled out a knife while holding
our child, escalating the situation into a physical altercation.
There were also deeply concerning incidents involving my son’s safety. On one occasion, Logan
returned from parenting time with visible bruising on his genitals. No reasonable explanation
was provided, which led to multiple involvements from child protective services.
All of these events took place in Bronx, New York, where Logan and I are originally from. As a
result, both parents underwent court-ordered mental health evaluations. Logan’s father was
diagnosed with multiple personality-related disorders, while I was diagnosed with PTSD due to
the trauma I experienced.
In 2021, I was granted sole custody of Logan. In 2022, I relocated to Connecticut in order to
provide a better, more stable life for my children. Despite continued co-parenting efforts,
including meeting halfway for visitation, the legal battles resumed—at one point even during the
birth of my second son, when I was forced to communicate with lawyers while preparing for
delivery.
The case was eventually brought before the New Britain, Connecticut family court, where a
court-appointed evaluator conducted a full family assessment. In her final report, she clearly
stated that if Logan’s father were granted sole custody, there was a concern that I would be cut
out of Logan’s life entirely. She also documented the father’s pattern of repeated litigation.
Despite this, Judge Dawson Lynn Alvey disregarded these findings, misrepresented my words,
and issued a ruling that removed Logan from my custody. This decision uprooted him from his
home, his school, and the community I worked tirelessly to build for him. He was not even
allowed to finish his kindergarten year.
My son was thriving. He was loved, supported, and surrounded by stability. That was taken from
him.
I am asking for this letter to reach individuals and organizations who are willing to help me fight
this injustice. I am not giving up on my son. Logan needs his mother, and I need support to
continue this fight.
Thank you for taking the time to hear my story.
