This GoFundMe is much needed for Liza Aries of Hilo, Hawaii who recently had a devastating fire and has lost everything. Any assistance you can offer either through a cash donation, clothing, furniture, or living assistance would be much appreciated.
Recently diagnosed with terminal stage-4 bone cancer and already coping by stretching her resources to pay for treatments, Liza has now suffered a total loss due to a fire that occurred at her home on the Big Island. This fire was a total loss to multiple families living in her 4-plex building that ended with two lives lost.
Liza has been deteriorating and struggles with the simple things we all tend to take for granted, such as reaching for groceries at the supermarket or the simple ability to grab items from shelves in her home. As someone who lives alone at 56 years old, Liza depends on the assistance from her brother Ralph to assist with daily needs and necessities. Recently, Ralph moved into assist Liza with the day to day needs she no longer can handle on her own in hopes to make her life a bit more manageable.
On November 28th, Liza and Ralph were woken at 3:00 AM, Karma (Ralphs dog and companion) woke the household alarmed by a fire that occurred in the building. He proceeded to alert Ralph and Liza by franticly working to wake them by removing the covers while they were sleeping in an attempt to save their lives. Alarmed by Karma's behaviors and frantic behavior, Ralph got up and grabbed his phone to find a concerning smell of plastic. They realized there was a fire and he sprung into action with Karma and woke Liza, saving her life and getting out just in time.
During the exit, Liza suffered additional hair loss and injuries due to the embers that had already begun to overtake the structure. They escaped just in time, saving their lives, however, multiple neighbors needed to be saved as well. As the firefighters were working hard to control the flames, Liza and Ralph began calling out to their neighbors in hopes they could alert them to get out as the structure was burning at a rapid speed. Unfortunately, in an effort to move quickly, 2 lives were loss due to this devastating incident.
They left with nothing; simple things such as prescription glasses, clothing, important documents, family photos........ a total loss. At this time, their is nothing they don't need to rebuild to ensure that Ralph can continue to comfort his sister Liza as she prepares to move onto Valhalla due to her terminal cancer conditions.
Although Ralph insists he is fine, he remains extremely concerned for his sister. Currently, with no place to go, Liza is sleeping on the cold hard ground in a shed with no running water, heat, all of the comforts we all take for granted. There have been offers to take the two of them in, however, the hero that saved their lives, Ralphs dog Karma, suffers from anxiety and remains anxious; Ralph and Liza are sacrificing their comfort as not to be a bother.
The community is hoping to raise enough funds to get Liza into a suitable apartment. With that, they will be in need of all house hold items such as cloths, furniture, and all of the basic needs required to make her comfortable such as quality and nutritious food, as she lives out the remainder of her life as comfortable as possible.
they remain grateful to the community members that are doing what they can, however, they have accepted it takes "a village" to accomplish the help they need. With gratitude and humble intentions, they have asked for the community to assist in any way they can with rebuilding their lives.
Any amount of monetary donations would assist with deposits and additional move in expenses, bills, medications, however, household items will be accepted as well. Due to the unfortunate cons that we all are sensitive to, the nature and details of the loss can be verified online at [email redacted] and/or engage.hawaii.police.gov by referencing report #25-107662.
If nothing else, on behalf of Ralph and Liza, we ask to please get the word out and share this Go Fund Me at the very least. Prayers and positive thoughts are encouraged and appreciated. Currently, they are using the Hilo post office for donations at 1299 Kekuanaoa street Hilo, HI 96720.
