Dear friends, another star has fallen…

It is with heavy heart and profound sadness that we share the news of Liviu’s passing. He fought a brave battle against brain cancer, and his strength and courage inspired us all. Liviu passed away peacefully on Saturday 31st August, at the age of 40, surrounded by family and friends. Whilst we grieve his loss, we also celebrate the fulfilling life he lived.

We are grateful for the outpouring of love and support his family has received during this devastating time. Your donations have helped reaching our fundraising goal. The fundraising page remains open, and we are now focusing on honouring Liviu with a meaningful funeral and memorial service. Your generosity will help us celebrate Liviu’s life in a way that reflects his spirit.

Story:

Our dear friend, Liviu Katona, fought a battle that no one so young should have to fight, the battle against cancer.

Liviu was a loving father to Diana and Alex and devoted husband to Mirela. He was always optimistic, with a positive attitude and a big heart. Liviu was a role model for his children and a source of inspiration and motivation for all of those who knew him. Even when his strength was exhausted by the fight of his life, he was the one who has found the peace and the energy to keep smiling, he was the one who encouraged his loved ones, saying that everything will be ok.

I started this GoFundMe page when Liviu was on the hospital bed, to help Mirela, Diana and Alex to manage the cost-of-living expenses and contribute to the expenses for his last journey.

Liviu’s story began about 7 years ago when he fainted for a few seconds whilst driving, resulting in a minor car accident. He was taken to the hospital, only to find out, after numerous tests, that he had a tumour in his brain. The tumour (or as much as possible of it) was surgically removed and, after painful radiotherapy and chemotherapy, things looked like they were coming back to normal.

A short while ago, the tumour started growing again, in the same place, making it inoperable. Various treatments were tried and although they slowed down the growth of the tumour, they didn’t stop it. Liviu’s health start deteriorating over the last few months, and, he was admitted into hospital for more procedures, in an attempt to prolong his life, but his tumour didn't react to treatment. Despite his continuous fight over the past 7 years, trying everything humanly possible, this cruel disease has slowly took over. He spent the last days of his life in palliative care, surrounded by his family and friends and did not given up for one moment.

Liviu's family want to celebrate his life, cherish the moments they had together and always remember Liviu as the contagiously happy and positive person he has always been.
