We are presenting 'The Story of Sal B and Barbrann(A Mob Fantasia): Cyrano Redux. This is a re-invention of Cyrano De Bergerac but set one hundred years in the future after WWIII (2125) in a world in which the mob has merged with the military as it struggles with Eastern enemies over Middle East oil. It's also a story of un-requited love: Sal B, a horribly scarred veteran of Special Forces just returned from the war zone, is pursued for a scoop by a young cub reporter. He becomes enamored of her but she is enraptured by the young heir of the head of the mob families of NY - Big Paul. Jr (the son) is the louche 'king of the discos' and who is planning on opening a (Vegas-like) Pleasure Dome for U.S. soldiers in the Saudi peninsula. (his idea of supporting the war effort). When Jr tries to prove his courage to himself he leads a foolhardy attack against terrorists in the battlezone, he countermands Sal B and is mortally wounded. Barbranne, the reporter has pursued her young paramour to the battle zone and she is able to reach him as he dies. Still pursuing her scoop on female sex trafficking, she's captured by terrorists. About to be sold into slavery herself she is rescued by Sal B, the Special Forces operator. After Sal and Barbranne return to the West a mobster who Sal had offended years before, tries to assassinate him. Sal B is mortally wounded and is robbed again of his just due as a heroic individual and flees to a hideout on a Tibetan compound on Staten Island. As he is reciting a final poem, Barbranne shows up and realizes it is he who had written the wonderful poems for Jr. but it's too late and he dies.

By placing the story in the future it will resonate with the tragic war situation e.g. ongoing in Ukraine and the Middle East, the whisper of the contemporary characters from today will breeze thru the room powerfully. The vivid dopplegangers of John Gotti and Paul Castellano showing up in this future world we believe will supercharge the evening. William Butler Yeat's theory was that history doesn't repeat itself exactly in the same way, but relatedly - in the configuration of a corkscrew (one ring above another)

Personally, I'm intrigued by 'un-requited love' having gone through that trauma myself. But this is not a political polemic even though we are certain that it will make people contemplate the possible future of the globe and learn by comparing the present to the past and finally it will captivate the audience. We believe passionately that we need art that provokes genuine thought in these dire times.

Sometime Child written by Richard Bruce was dramaturged, and directed by Stephan Morrow who also played the lead. The film of the stage production was shot by internationally known Dir of Photography, Ken Kelsch RIP (D.P. for most Abel Ferrara films e.g. The Bad Lt w/ Harvey Keitel, King of NY w/ Chris Walken). A Speical Forces member in Cambodia during the Vietnam War Ken passed away from causes related to Agent Orange.

'The Assassination of J.Kaisaar and the Rise of Augustus' which was written and directed by Stephan Morrow - and the film of the stage production won 'Best Science Fiction Feature in The Golden State Film Festival and was screened in the famous Grauman Chinese Theater in L.A.

'Dogmouth' the story of Vietnam vets who are like Hell's Angels except they ride freights - not Harley's 1St done at Theater for the New City was made into an award winning film: sweeping The Bergenfield Film Festival with Best Writer for John Steppling, Best Producing for Rob Hunkele and Best Actor for Stephan Morrow in the eponymous role.

Stephan Morrow has had the honor and the privilege of working with Norman Mailer ('Strawhead' - A memory of Marilyn, 'Tough Guys Don't Dance' as 'Stoodie' and 'The Deer Park'), Arthur Miller (The Crucible, After the Fall, The Price and Incident at Vichy - personally backed by Mr.Miller until Mr.Miller sadly passed away) and Mario Fratti - 10 productions over a long period of time at Theater for the New City. Stephan was mentored into the Playwright Directors Unit by maestro Elia Kazan and is now a frequent moderator himself of the Unit.

A native New Yorker (Stuyvesant H.S. alumni and NYU Filmmaking) he made his way around the world as a 'Soldier of Peace' at the end of his teenage years in a little less than two years going overland with no more than $200 in his rucksack at any given moment and surviving the dangers of places like Afghanistan, Cambodia and Laos - spending four months on Taiwan (where he traveled to Orchid Island and lived with the Yami, an aboriginal tribe there, He ended his journey in Kalalau Valley on Kuai where he lived off the land for months before feeling unfulfilled in that Garden of Eden and so returned to NYC to do theater.
