Hi all. My name is Kat. On June 18, 2025, my world was flipped upside down. My mom was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer. We found out not long after that she tested positive for the BRAF mutation; an extremely aggressive form of cancer that significantly worsens prognosis, increases likelihood of complications, and is resistant to standard chemotherapy. In the four months that have passed, I have watched helplessly as the walls close in around me. Following a summer of complication after complication, she never even had the opportunity to receive her full chemotherapy regimen. She is now back in the hospital with another bowel obstruction just when we thought we would have the chance to hit the cancer with everything we can throw at it. Her surgeon was extremely apprehensive to operate, but I pleaded with him to give her one more chance to respond to a targeted BRAF cancer therapy. He agreed, and this is our last shot. My mom has always been my purpose. My best friend, my rock. Every time I thought I couldn’t keep going, I did it for her. The concept of a life without her is something I had never even considered, nonetheless so near in the future. Unfortunately, it is a humbling reality that I have not been able to escape. I have watched her rapid physical deterioration and done everything in my power to make this easier for her in any way possible. But now, things seem to be taking a turn for the worst and we need help. I have decided to take an indefinite amount of time off of work because my priorities are firm in spending as much time as possible with her when tomorrow isn’t promised. This is where I turn to you, the public, and ask you to please help us if you are able to do so. We are fortunate enough to have assistance with her medical care, but the expenses don’t end there. Your support would mean so much in this time when all we wish is to cherish our time together, regardless of how long that time may be. All of this to say, my mother is the strongest person I’ve ever known, even before all of this. We know what we are up against but she has never been one to back down from a fight. If you know Lisa, you know she has never been one to accept help, so please consider lending us a hand now that we’ve been left no choice. If you decide to donate or have even bothered to read this far, we appreciate you more than we can express.
