Support Lisa Shaw's Medical Recovery

Donation protected
Hello everyone,

I’m reaching out on behalf of Lisa Shaw. We volunteered together at the Tampa Bay SPCA many years ago, before she moved on to help at Big Cat Rescue. My name is Sandra.

Lisa has been hospitalized at UC Davis in Sacramento, CA since 10/22. She was transferred to the ICU on 10/31 and is still there in critical condition. Her brother Graham and cousin Ellie are with Lisa and taking care of her beloved cats. We (Graham, and a dozen of her friends) have been part of a group text when Lisa’s health became extremely fragile.

We don’t yet know when Lisa will be discharged or what her medical bills and aftercare expenses will be. So, with the assistance of her brother, we will eventually get an update. Out of respect to Lisa and her family, I am not divulging the details of her medical issues. That is for Lisa to tell, whenever she’s ready. I will hand over ownership of this account to Lisa when she’s stronger and feeling better.

I’m asking for financial assistance for Lisa due to pending medical bills. Anyone who knows Lisa also knows she is too independent-minded to ever ask for help. There is not a deadline for this fundraiser. I plan to keep it active until Lisa no longer owes any providers for health care bills. That could be many months.

Either way, please keep Lisa in your thoughts. Please do NOT send flowers to the hospital, as we all know Lisa would scoff at that. Lisa has helped so many four legged souls, I’m glad to initiate this for her. I don’t know how many of Lisa’s previous co-workers are FB friends, so please forward this to appropriate folks. I am messaging Lisa’s FB friends (one by one), and apologize in advance if I accidentally contact you twice.

BTW, there was not an option for me to turn off GFM request for a “tip” to them. If you donate here, keep an eye out for a green dot on a green line, and move that to the amount you do/don’t want to send money to GFM. Thank you for your consideration.

11/18/25: It is with heartache and sadness to post this update. Lisa Shaw lost her battle with complex illnesses and passed away. Her brother will scatter her ashes in the mountains of NC, along with the ashes of previous fur babies. I have learned of a wonderful non-profit in Sacramento that I will donate to in addition to this GFM account “Happy Tails”. https://www.happytails.org/resources/feral-cats

Some GFM donors have indicated they want this GFM account transferred to Lisa’s family to cover expenses. If you would like your donation returned, you have to individually request a refund in the original GFM link on Lisa’s FB page. There is not an option for me to do one by one refunds. If I initiate a refund, it returns everyone’s donation. I’m not able to pick and choose.

Blessings to the Shaw family. There are 2 non profit agencies that help cats, named in the update on 11/23. Remaining GFM donations will be split between the two, in memory of Lisa.
