An unprecedented humanitarian crisis is unfolding in Eastern DR Congo. Ongoing conflict has forced thousands of families to flee their homes, leaving them displaced in camps with little access to food, clean water, or medical care.
Lisa Orphanage, a refuge for 126 children in Goma, has recently taken in 17 new children whose parents tragically lost their lives due to the crisis. Maboko and his wife, who run the orphanage, are doing everything they can to provide these children with food, shelter, and care—but resources are running low.
I am raising funds to support Lisa Orphanage during this critical time. My father, through his work with Sustainable Medical Missions (SMM) and Africa Bora Ministries (ABM), has supported the orphanage for years. As a student at Colorado College, I may not be there in person to help them, but I would like to do what I can from afar.
Every donation, no matter the size, will go directly to helping these children receive the essentials they need.
Thank you for your support! ❤️
ADDITIONAL WAYS TO HELP:
In addition to supporting Lisa Orphanage, Sustainable Medical Missions (SMM) and Africa Bora Ministries (ABM) are helping assist Congolese refugees in more ways:
Jiggers Infestation Among Children
Due to the lack of food, clean water, and hygiene materials, Jiggers (Tunga penetrans) infestations have become a serious problem for children in refugee camps. Jiggers are wingless sand fleas that burrow into the skin, often affecting those without access to proper hygiene or footwear. Once removed, recovery is quick, and the skin heals.
The SMM team has mobilized volunteers and resources from local churches to combat this outbreak, but the challenge remains overwhelming. If you would like to learn more or support this effort, visit https://www.sustainablemed.org/
Feeding Displaced Congolese Refugees
Through Africa Bora Ministries (ABM), efforts are underway to distribute food packages worth $75 to 130 families (over 1,000 individuals). Each package lasts one month and includes: (Cornmeal 25Kg, Rice 25 Kg, Beans 13 Kg, Salt 1 Kg, Soaps 2 bars, Cooking Oil 3 Liters). The total budget for this effort is $10,000, and every contribution makes a difference. If you would like to support the continuation of this work, you can donate through this link: https://faithandlearning.org/projects/africa-bora-ministries/
Both SMM and ABM are doing so much more to support communities in need—not just in response to this crisis, but through long-term projects in healthcare, education, clean water initiatives, and economic empowerment.
