My name is Paula Gallien, and I have an amazing friend, Lisa, Meyerrose who is battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Through the continuous prayers of family, friends and community—and God‘s goodness, Lisa is still with us a year plus later. Almost unheard of! Lisa is special, and I feel like the medical community should be advocating for her, and wanting to learn how and why she has survived so long. It can only help other current and future cancer patients who deserve to live as much as Lisa. What I have learned with Lisa and her husband Kurt is that standard of care for stage 4 pancreatic cancer adecarcinoma is to simply keep the patient comfortable until they pass on. But Lisa deserves to have doctors and medical care that will advocate for her and her longevity of life, instead of the current standard of care. The hope is that the standard protocol will change in the future.
And so today she is making a decision and leap of faith to jump out of the standard norm and go seek that care. Very unfairly, nothing is covered when she does this. No doctors visits, surgeries, treatments…or simple things like herbal remedies, gas to drive to appts, hospital stays…We all know people who have Financial challenges just to want to save their lives. In February 2025 Lisa did go out of standard care and had a nano knife procedure performed out of state and out of pocket. This procedure alone could prolong her life one extra year. Why wouldn’t doctors want to do more of this?
Lisa‘s next milestone is to have a Y-90 procedure, which will directly target the cancer in her liver. This procedure is deemed out of network/ pocket because because Lisa has been declared inoperable. She is fighting to prolong her life.
I just want to do my part in helping this amazing woman and friend. And who knows? Her journey, as I have stated, may help MANY others who are going through the same. We want everyone to have the same opportunities and have their care covered by insurance eventually. And maybe this inspires others of you to help your own friends or family in this go fund me methodology. NO amount is too small!
Sincerely, Paula Gallien. God’s blessings
