My name is Lisa Lindgren, from Mariposa. I came here from the Bay Area to take care of my mother and after her passing, my aunt as their caregiver in Feb of 2019, along with my daughter, Bernadette, who was 13 at the time.
My mom and aunt are no longer with us, and my daughter has just started her second year at Merced Community College, and I'm so proud. Through a program called FASFA, she has been able to get much-needed help to pay her college needs this far.
I have found myself to be in a position I wasn't expecting. I'm trying to get disability due to my health issues, both physical and mental, and at 57 years old, I don't qualify for regular retirement.
I am asking for help with a few bills so I can continue to care for myself and my daughter. She needs a driver's license and an insured vehicle, which has been unaffordable for us.
I am currently trying to keep my head above water, with no income. I am asking for help to pay my utility bills and car insurance, and help for my daughter. She will need to work this summer so she can stay in college.
I feel that with some help, I can get back on track and see that my daughter is stable and, of course, happy through this hardship at this time in life. If I am able to get through the next year, I'll be able to see my daughter through college and also to thrive in this life. Being that we only have each other is what motivates me to do whatever it takes to change the situation I've found myself in, and to the best of my abilities.
