Support Linda's Mission to Feed Honolulu's Cats
Donation protected
Aloha everyone, we are here to raise some funds for Linda, an angel of a lady who feeds an area in Honolulu, Hawai'i. She feeds a colony of over 150-200 cats in Honolulu. She has fed this colony for over 30 years all out of her own time and her own pocket. No one has ever helped her financially over the years until Kris (Snapple's foster mom) and I met her. She is now in her 80s and even though her cancer is at bay, she doesn’t have a bladder and has a catheter. She has been experiencing issues with that as of late and is managing pain as surgery is not an option for her. She refuses to stop feeding the cats despite her doctor's orders and even if she is in a lot of pain. She can't fathom these cats not being taken care of. Her maintenance fees have doubled in the last month and with this, it means she has to take it out of what she spends on food for the cats. She currently only has her social security to pay for food for these cats along with her living expenses. When I speak with her, she prioritizes feeding the cats first before she spends on herself.
Linda also drives 30-45 minutes depending on traffic from the other side of the island to feed the colony. The cats love her too and count on her. They know when to expect her and even follow her car when she turns a corner. Some are also very affectionate with her and we think it’s their way of thanking her. We would like to help Linda feel a little secure for a short while and to tell her in some way that we appreciate all that she has done for the cat community and animal welfare here in Honolulu.
Linda does work on getting them trapped and fixed with the TNR volunteers on the island, but sometimes, things fall behind as there aren't enough people to TNR fast enough to stay ahead of the population growth. There are often intake holds at the Humane Society and local rescues. Many domesticated cats are also being dumped and abandoned, which doesn’t help the cat distribution system. We know this isn't unique to our islands, but we can try to help where we can even if it's in some small way.
We were able to find 3 amazing families that are helping her feed, which is so helpful, but Linda is still providing all the food. As much as the physical help she needs to feed is the most important for her health, we know she is very thankful for your help to feed the cats if you are able to donate.
The area Linda feeds spans 0.6 miles. She covers 4 streets in that area. She goes through at least 60 cans of wet food and 32 lbs of dry food every night. She spends a total of about $600.00 a week; $260.00 in dry food and $340.00 in wet food. The reality is, it isn't enough food and she stretches it for all of them.
There is an Amazon list for Linda in the bio of @campwobblycat [email redacted].snapple on Instagram. However, sometimes suppliers are unable to deliver to Hawai'i and it can be frustrating for those who want to help her and send her food and supplies. Sometimes food is also hard to find in Hawai'i. Many have then asked if there was another way to donate money to her and this is why we have set up a GoFundMe for her. We will continue to run campaigns to raise money for her throughout the year, but for now, to help her and the cats get through the holidays.
Linda has been so grateful for the continued support of this community. So many of you have shown that you would like to continue making small donations to her over time and here is where we can continue to help Linda. Again, Linda is forever grateful to everyone that has, and will donate to feed the cats of Honolulu.
We know there are so many of you that are so giving, but anything helps, even $5. You are all angels to us. Thank you to all of you for being such a supportive community, you are all angels to Linda and the street cats of Honolulu.
