Linda's journey went from narrowly missing the Olympics to qualifying for Paris 2024 in the 68kg weight class for Women's Wrestling, a true testament to her resilience and determination.
In 2016, heartbroken when she missed out on a spot on the Canadian Olympic team by a hair, she used this to fuel a fire in her for the following four years. She rose above the setback and channeled her disappointment into determination.
In 2019, at the pinnacle of the wrestling world, after having won the World Championship, an achievement that only four other Canadian women had accomplished, things were looking positive. Unfortunately, the following year, the elusive Olympic spot once again slipped through her fingers, leading her to reconsider her future in wrestling.
While considering retirement, Linda's coaches and family helped her find the strength to step back onto the mat, with eyes firmly set on Paris 2024.
This journey, filled with highs and lows, has forged a spirit of unwavering perseverance and a commitment to her dream, culminating in the remarkable achievement of qualifying for the Paris Olympics. Linda's story is a powerful reminder that true success is not just about the victories but about the relentless pursuit of one’s dreams, no matter how daunting the obstacles may be.
The path to the Olympics is paved with significant financial sacrifices, especially in a non-mainstream sport like wrestling. After graduating with her Master's in Education, Linda worked as a supply teacher to help with training costs. She thought she could do both, but unfortunately her performance suffered tremendously. This wake-up call led her to put my teaching career on hold and live frugally to fully focus on getting to Paris. The financial burden is heavy, but the dream of Olympic gold drove Linda to make these sacrifices.
Let's come together to support Linda in her final weeks and she gets ready for Paris, ensuring she gets all the athletic treatment she needs and can 100% focus on being in tip top shape for Paris!
For those who are interested in cheering her on from afar, Linda will be competing on Monday, August 5. All good vibes are appreciated:)
