Linda Vernell Johnson, 66, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on April 30, 2025, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.
Linda was born on January 18, 1959, in Mexico, Missouri, to George and Frances (Moore) Johnson. When she was 2 years old, her family relocated to Des Moines. Linda grew up in Des Moines, where she attended Franklin Middle and Tech High School. Shortly after her first child, she married Timothy Hatton and moved to Missouri, then Mt. Pleasant, IA, before returning to Des Moines. Once back in Des Moines, she worked at the Wilkie House.
Later, she worked at and retired from the correctional facility, Fort Des Moines. Linda liked to talk with her family and had a wonderful singing voice. She enjoyed traveling, decorating, and was a self-taught cosmetologist.
Those left behind are her children, Jasmine (Julian) Johnson and Arcimona Hatton; grandchildren, Jemiah, Jalen, Jeriel Johnson, Willie "Royal" Parker Jr., and Arnissa Parker; siblings, Sharon Brown, Gwen "Ayeshah" Johnson-Miller, Castine Johnson, Christine Johnson, Pamela Johnson, Michael (Varsha) Johnson, George "Jorge" (Bettina) Johnson-Moreno, and Tony Johnson; uncle Lewis Moore, oldest niece, Raynell "China" Johnson; and many more nieces, nephews, cousins, and best friend Leona (Marion) Butts. Linda was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Karen Brown and Ronald "Gigi" Mozee.
Memorial services are being planned for Sat 5/17 at Holiday Inn & Suites Des Moines-Northwest. Henderson's Funeral & Cremation Care has been entrusted with Linda and her family.
