My name is Linda Acevedo. I am a special education teacher on Staten Island. This year, I took a study sabbatical so that I could be with my terminally ill mother. Chemo was tried and it failed. Mom is currently in the CCU. She is stable for now. We are praying for a rebound, but I know it is time to start to prepare for the inevitable future that no one can avoid.
I just used up the last of my savings to get a new apartment as the landlord, also dealing with medical situations, needed the apartment to live in themselves.
I am a proud woman and hate asking for help. But I also know that I need to prepare for the worst and I need to call on my friends for help. I am so sorry and embarrassed to ask, but for my family, I will humble myself low. If you can donate, it would mean the world to my family in this crisis moment. If you can’t, that's ok too! If you pray, just say a prayer for my family and my mom.
A friend asked if she could start one for me, but I decided I would instead. I am the matriarch of my family now, so I will be the one to ask for help for us all. Again, if you know me, I NEVER ask people for anything, so this is very hard for me. I just want to make sure my mom, who has been wonderful to every person who has ever met her, has her final resting the way she would have wanted it. I pray it’s a long time away, but this latest crisis shows me it’s time to start preparing.
Again, feel no obligation! If you can help, then I would be eternally grateful. But no matter. Prayers are always appreciated that she can rally through this hardship.
