Emergency Life-Saving Care for Lina
The Goal: $20,000
The Heart of the Request
For 14 years, Pearl and I led a humanitarian mission in the Philippines with Jun Velasco by our side. Jun didn't just work for the mission; he was the mission. He has spent his life and continues to do so as a shield for the poor and a father to the fatherless. But behind every sacrifice Jun made was his wife, Lina—his partner in service and the heart of their home.
Today, the man who has spent his life saving others is facing a heartbreak he cannot fix alone. Lina is fighting for her life, and Jun is on the verge of losing the very home they built together to pay for her survival.
The Crisis: A Relentless Fight for Life
Lina’s health journey has been filled with suffering. After enduring a grueling series of medical procedures throughout 2024, the end of 2025 brought a wave of catastrophic setbacks that nearly took her from us.
In November, a predatory infection turned lethal, forcing doctors to perform an emergency amputation of her right leg to save her life. The trauma of the surgery pushed her body to the brink; as she lay in the ICU for six harrowing days, her heart, kidneys, and lungs began to fail.
Lina survived that dark week, but she emerged bedridden and fragile. The battle has now reached a critical tipping point:
• Bone-Deep Infection: Due to prolonged immobility, Lina has developed severe bedsores that have reached the bone in her hip and spine. She requires immediate, complex surgeries to remove the infected tissue.
• Heart Failure: Lina’s heart is currently functioning at only 27% (normal is 50–80%). She urgently needs a cardiac angiogram and potential stent placement to keep her heart beating.
• The Ultimate Sacrifice: To cover these mounting costs, Jun has made the agonizing decision to put the family home up for sale.
Why We Must Act Now
We cannot stand by and watch a man who has given everything to the vulnerable lose the roof over his head while his wife fights for her next breath. This $20,000 goal is a lifeline designed to cover Lina’s immediate surgeries and ICU costs so that Jun does not have to sell their home.
The Urgent Needs ($20,000) estimate:
• $8,000 for current unpaid hospital bills.
• $7,000 for critical cardiac procedures and angiogram.
• $5,000 for upcoming bone-infection surgeries and intensive wound care.
How You Can Help
Many of you stepped up heroically before Christmas, and Jun and Lina are incredibly grateful. We are not asking out of habit, but out of urgent necessity.
1. Donate: Every dollar goes directly toward medical costs and protecting their home.
2. Share: Send this to your personal circles and those who have been touched by Jun’s lifelong ministry.
3. Pray: Pray specifically for the surgeons’ hands this week and for Lina’s heart to find the strength to keep fighting.
"God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people..." Let’s show Jun and Lina that same love today.
Transparency and Trust: How Your Gift Reaches Jun
Because GoFundMe does not currently support direct transfers to bank accounts in the Philippines, I am acting as the organizer and personal representative for this fundraiser.
To ensure every dollar reaches Jun and Lina, I am following these steps:
• Fund Management: I’m a close personal friend and former colleague of Jun Velasco. All donations will be withdrawn directly into my verified U.S. bank account.
• The Transfer Process: I will be sending 100% of the funds received (minus GoFundMe's standard processing fees) to Jun Velasco in the Philippines via a secure international wire transfer.
• Use of Funds: These gifts are personal in nature and are intended solely to pay for Lina’s outstanding hospital bills, cardiac procedures, and upcoming surgeries as outlined above.
