UPDATE, 7/11/2025
It’s now been four months since Lily underwent her hepatoportoenterostomy (Kasai procedure). While the surgery itself went well, her liver unfortunately hasn’t responded as her doctors had hoped it would.
The next step is a transplant evaluation for Lily, which will take place the week of August 4th, 2025. This will bring many days of testing, bloodwork, and scans.
Please keep Lily and the entire Islas family in your prayers as they prepare for this next phase in getting sweet Lily the liver transplant she needs.
UPDATE, 3/17/2025:
Natalie and Carlos want to express their gratitude for your generous donations. Your support means the world to them as they navigate the growing medical expenses.
Sweet Lily is now five days post-surgery, and her recovery is progressing as expected. She is a strong little fighter! While there is still a long road ahead, she is healing well. Natalie and Carlos remain by her side at the hospital, providing her with love and comfort every step of the way. Now, we hold onto hope and pray that the Kasai procedure was successful and that Lily’s liver function continues to improve.
Once again, thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. Your kindness and generosity are truly making a difference!
On January 31st 2025, the Islas family welcomed their beautiful daughter, Lily, into the world. What should have been a joyful and peaceful time adjusting to life as a family of four has quickly turned into an emotional and challenging journey.
Not long after birth, Lily began experiencing some concerning symptoms, leading to weeks of tests and uncertainty. At just six weeks old, she underwent a major four-hour surgery, where doctors confirmed she has Biliary Atresia—a rare liver disease that blocks the bile ducts and can lead to serious complications.
After confirming her diagnosis, surgeons immediately performed a Kasai Procedure, also known as a hepatoportoenterostomy. This surgery created a new pathway for bile to flow from her liver into her intestine, which can help slow liver damage and give Lily’s liver a chance to keep working as long as possible.
As Carlos and Natalie focus on Lily’s recovery and care, and spend countless hours by her side in the hospital, they are also juggling the responsibilities of raising their 3-year-old daughter, Lyla, and managing growing medical expenses. The weeks ahead will be incredibly difficult as they navigate hospital stays, time away from work, time away from Lyla, and the uncertainty of what comes next for Lily’s health.
We are reaching out on their behalf to ask for support. Donations will help cover hospital bills, travel costs, meals, and lost income—allowing Carlos and Natalie to focus on what matters most: being there for their daughters during this unimaginable time.
If you are able to give, any amount helps and is deeply appreciated. If you’re not able to donate, please consider sharing this page and keeping Lily and the entire Islas family in your thoughts and prayers.
Thank you so much for your love and support.
