Hi there-
My name is Lily and I’m a 20 month old Shepherd/Terrier mix (a.k.a. adorable mutt). My problems began a year ago when my owner dumped me and my brother, Creed, on the streets of Lubbock, Texas. My brother and I are actually still living on the streets because, despite a group of 8 women (they call themselves the "Bleeding Heart Rescue Network" [this is not a 501 C3 – just a band of nice broads]) calling countless rescues across the nation since August, no one has wanted us.
A nice woman named Gabriella, who has too many dogs of her own, saw us and made makeshift dog houses for us out of straw. She feeds us. It’s hard to be homeless, but if I was brought to the shelter, I would be euthanized for space.
We also picked up a friend – a black lab mix – named “Hershey” about 6 months ago. Something bad must have happened to Hershey because he’s terrified of people…
So these nice women pay for us to get vetted- mostly from their own pockets. We’ve had tick borne illness and injuries from the hard life we have lived on the street. Each time we are vetted, we get to stay inside and be cared for, then, everyone cries when we have to go back on the street. It’s been a year now after all. Everyone worries we will get hit by a car, but no one can do anything because rescues are full or don't want us.
Very recently, I got some hope—we all did. A rescue in Ohio called Hooves, Paws, and Claws, RRC said they would take me and only me (although that may change). To transport me to this rescue it will cost $375. Then Hershey needs $600 in vetting. We also need food until we are rescued.
If we can finish getting vetted and if the Bleeding Heart Rescue Network can pay for transportation (that will also be a big cost for Creed and Hershey), then we may be able to be sent to states with rescues that want us because getting vetted and transported makes us much more attractive to rescues.
I know that we are just three of thousands of dogs who are homeless across the country—but I believe we matter, and with enough love from others, we may have a chance to get out of Texas and to feel the love of a family for the first time in our lives.
Please help us if you can.
Thank you,
Lily (and Creed and Hershey and the Bleeding Hearts Rescue Network)
