Hello Everyone!
My name is Lillie Cercone and I am an undergraduate student at the University of Tennessee Knoxville studying animal science with a pre-veterinary concentration. Since I was a child I've known I wanted to be a veterinarian. I grew up riding horses, raising chickens, and loving any animal I came into contact with.
However, the road to becoming a veterinarian is a marathon. Much like an MD it requires eight years of intense schooling at the cost of hundreds of thousands of dollars of tuition and fees, emotional strain, and dedication.
I have recently been accepted into a university-led study abroad program this summer in Belize for two weeks. While there I would have the opportunity to:
- Perform small animal exams and assist in surgeries
- Provide care in underprivileged communities where veterinary access is fairly inaccessible
- Gain hands-on experience in a foreign country that will set apart my vet school application in a highly competitive environment
This program is something I’m very passionate about as it's a rare opportunity to help those in need while building foundational skills for my career.
Through this GoFundMe my goal is to raise funds that will not be covered by my scholarships (ex. flight tickets, some transportation and meals, etc) Unfortunately, my deadline to commit is February 23rd even though I was accepted only three days ago. It would mean so much to me if I could make this happen. However I understand that this is difficult to do in such a short time thus, if the total is not met any additional funds will go directly towards my college tuition and future vet school application fees.
Sincerely,
Lillie Cercone
