The cost of medical equipment exponentially increases with age!

Hi, my name is Lilian Elena and I have Cerebral Palsy.

I was born at 26 weeks of gestation. I weighed 2 lb 2.2 oz and I was measuring 13.78 inches long!

I spent 140 days in the NICU. While in the NICU, I had a brain bleed (grade IV IVH), hypotension, pulmonary hemorrhage, seizures, heart surgery, failed multiple hearing tests, resuscitation, and I was later given a CP diagnosis (Spasticity Quadriplegic)

I had 20+ procedures from my birth till current time to help place my shunt, with multiple failed attempts to control the fluid overfill. Finally reaching out to Luries Children Hospital, which led to a successful shunt revision and being able to finally close and seal the shunt wound successfully. From both hospitals, Loyola and Luries Children Hospital, I've managed to keep on going. But due to my condition, more issues arose from the brain injury. My cerebral palsy diagnosis led to being spastic quadriplegic, leading to my epilepsy, which has caused me to be really prone to respiratory illness. So far, 6+ pneumonia hospitalizations

(Chronic lung disease) and still fighting to have my lungs fully functional from the times they've collapsed. Sometimes having to deal with both bacterial infections and viral respiratory illness plus seizures triggered from the sickness & having to spend more than 10 hospitalizations every year.

But I'm still holding on.

My parents, my siblings, my nurses, my teacher, and everyone around are doing all they can to help me continue fighting.

I'm currently 5 years old.

As I get older, the cost of my medical equipment and daily care grows with me. From essential supplies to therapies that keep me thriving, every contribution helps support my health, comfort, and ability to enjoy everyday activities.

¡El costo del equipo médico aumenta exponencialmente con la edad! Hola, mi nombre es Lilian Elena y tengo parálisis cerebral. Nací a las 26 semanas de gestación. Pesé 2 libras y 2,2 onzas y medía 13,78 pulgadas de largo. Pasé 140 días en la UCIN. Mientras estuve allí, tuve una hemorragia cerebral (Hiv de grado IV), hipotensión, hemorragia pulmonar, convulsiones, cirugía cardíaca, fallé múltiples pruebas de audición, reanimación y, más tarde, me diagnosticaron parálisis cerebral (cuadripléjica espástica).

Tuve más de 20 procedimientos desde mi nacimiento hasta el momento actual para ayudar a colocar mi derivación, con múltiples intentos fallidos de controlar el llenado excesivo de líquido. Finalmente, me comuniqué con el Luries Children Hospital, lo que llevó a una revisión exitosa de la derivación y finalmente pude cerrar y sellar la herida de la derivación con éxito. Desde ambos hospitales, Loyola y Luries Children Hospital, he logrado seguir adelante. Pero debido a mi condición, surgieron más problemas a causa de la lesión cerebral. Mi diagnóstico de parálisis cerebral llevó a ser cuadripléjica espástica, lo que llevó a mi epilepsia, lo que me ha hecho muy propenso a las enfermedades respiratorias. Hasta ahora, más de 6 hospitalizaciones por neumonía, y todavía lucho para que mis pulmones funcionen completamente desde las veces que colapsaron. A veces, tengo que lidiar con infecciones bacterianas y enfermedades respiratorias virales, además de convulsiones desencadenadas por la enfermedad y tener que pasar más de 10 hospitalizaciones cada año.

Pero aún sigo adelante. Mis padres, mis hermanos, mis enfermeras, mi maestra y todos los que me rodean están haciendo todo lo posible para ayudarme a seguir luchando. Actualmente tengo 5 años. A medida que cresco, el costo de mi equipo médico y mi atención diaria aumenta conmigo. Desde suministros esenciales hasta terapias que me mantienen en forma, cada contribución ayuda a mantener mi salud, comodidad y capacidad para disfrutar de las actividades diarias. Su apoyo significa mucho para nosotros: ayuda a garantizar que tenga todo lo que necesito para vivir la vida con confianza.
