Support Lila Maya's Scoliosis Treatment Journey

Dear Friends + Family ~

This is an updated message in regard to my daughter Lila's healing journey.

First, I want to thank everybody that has supported Lila along the way with love, prayers and financial support, it has meant alot to us and we are all grateful. Your generous donations helped us cover a good portion of the costs last year. We are still very much in need of some extra support on this healing journey as we head into another round of therapy treatments at the Strauss Scoliosis clinic and a series of somatic body therapies, including rolfing, cranial sacral and yoga therapy. Unfortnately these holistic therapies are not covered by insurance and they are expensive. The surgery though amazing and truly helful for many is really intense and invasive, so we are doing all we can to avoid or postpone it. Lila wants to take this path and I truly believe that Lila can avoid this very intense and life changing surgery and learn the tools and practices that will support her wellbeing throughout her life.

Many of these therapies are not covered by insurance, i I wish that we could cover all the costs ourselves, but we are unable to at this time, so we are asking our community for your support. If you feel called to support Lila, please send your love and positive energy to her and if you are able to make a financial donation, all the proceeds will go directly towards the costs for Lila’s therapy at the Strauss clinic and a series of body therapies including ‘Rolfing’. Also toward the travel and lodging costs when are at the Strauss clinic, which are substantial.

Update as of February 2024

Lila did 2 weeks of intensive treatment at the Strauss clinc in New York last winter and was able to make a significant reduction in her curve. Unfortunatley she was not able to fully maintain it this. This was due to a few factors; a growth spurt and a period of time that she was not able to maintain the exercises for emotional reasons.

I [Lila’sFather] have temporarily moved to Asheville to work with her everyday doing daily healing practices, Yoga, breathwork, massage, she is also intensively doing the exercises she has learned through Schroff physical threrapy and also through her time at the Strauss Clinic. We are making progress, but because her curve is quite advanced we need to do another round of treatments in addition to the daily practices. We are also starting a round of rolfing and cranial sacral treatments as well as working with some somatic movement therapies. Lila is doing a great job and we are making progress, but because her curve is more advanced and she is still growing, we need to bring the degree of the curve to avoid surgery. I am really confident that we can postpone the surgery, if not completely avoid it.

Our daughter Lila Maya has developed a severe case of scoliosis, her spinal curve is currently almost 6o* degrees. According to her Doctors & Allopathic medicine, she is heading for what they call corrective + preventitive spinal surgery {metal rods and screws inserted along the spine}. The western doctors say surgery is not 'if but when.'

We believe that her curve can be corrected to the point that she does not need surgery and have found an alternative, intensive treatment program that has a holistic, therapeutic approach with amazing results.

Lila is currently undergoing this intensive program with Dr Andrew Stauss, at his clinic in southern New York state.

Dr Strauss has had great success in treating scoliosis- both stopping the progression of the curve and reversing the curve on average over 10 degrees per patient and sometimes even more. People from all over the world come to his clinic and undergo a very intensive treatment program which includes: physical therapy, chiropractic care and specialized treatment machines. The treatment is specialized to each individual. It includes about 5 hours a day of machines, exercises, multiple adjustments, education and work with therapists and also exercises done at home in the morning and evening. At the end of the program students come away with their own daily home care program.

This treatment is expensive and it is not covered by insurance and it is more than we can afford. So we are humbly asking for help from our community, from any friends who can and would like to help us. We are truly grateful for any amount and if we could cover this on our own we would, but we need help.

Even though Lila's case is severe, we believe that it can be greatly improved to the point that she will not need this surgery, which will truly impact her in life. She is currently at the clinic undergoing treatment and is working very hard and we are proud of her. She has finished the first week and we have one more week to go.

A girl with a 52 degree curve just finished the program and her curve went down 20 degrees in 2 weeks! Another boy had a 70 degree curve and he got down to 50! This is only during the 2 weeks of the program- but the follow up of both a progressive brace worn 22 hours a day and the home program of 1 hour a day means that people have even better results in the months to come. We are very grateful we found Dr Strauss and hope that Lila has similar results at the end of her program.
