What our goal is:

100% of the donations from this fundraiser support medical care, essential training, and associated care for dogs rescued from municipal shelter euthanasia lists. Dogs often require spay/neuter/shots at a minimum. Several dogs recently rescued from high-kill shelters have suffered years of neglect and require extensive veterinary and behavioral care. One of our dogs is receiving treatment for liver disease and a dental abscess. A 10-month-old puppy saved on Christmas Eve suffered multiple dog bites to his face requiring care. Some dogs arrive with neglect-based sores, and many come to us with respiratory diseases like pneumonia or kennel cough. We also often revive dogs with severe dental disease causing them great pain, urgently in need of treatment. In short, we are making up for years of care these dogs were denied. Our love for dogs can’t be measured by dollars and cents, but the cost of care is ever mounting. We are 100% donation-based and can’t do it alone.

Who are we:

Pound Puppy Refuge is a small not-for-profit dog rescue located in Westport, CT, servicing CT and NYC. Pound Puppy Refuge is dedicated to the responsible rehoming of local at-risk dogs and dogs in municipal shelters listed for euthanasia. The founder of Pound Puppy Refuge has worked with numerous rescues and shelters for over 25 years. During this time, she became aware of the growing shelter crisis and the rate at which pets are surrendered to shelters and subsequently euthanized. Pound Puppy Refuge was thus founded to give these amazing dogs failed by humans a fighting chance. Pound Puppy Refuge often partners with other 501c3 rescues to maximize the impact for dogs in need. When possible, Pound Puppy Refuge also provides support to members of the community who are struggling with pet ownership to help keep families together and prevent surrender to shelters.

What are our values:

We are determined to find great dogs who have been overlooked and discarded lasting homes. This means we commit to investing the necessary care like vetting, training, and decompression periods to set dogs and adopters up for success. We also spend the necessary time educating adopters so they have the tools to be responsible pet owners. Pound Puppy Refuge is committed to creating responsible adoptions where both dogs and families are appropriately matched and receive ongoing support as needed, preventing dogs from ending up back in a shelter.
