I’m writing this for my mom, Lidia, who just turned 60 years old a couple days ago. She has spent over 40 years doing hair and taking care of others, always putting her clients and family first. No matter how hard things have been, she never stopped working or showing up for her three daughters.
For the past 11 years, Lidia has been on dialysis, suffering from Polycystic Kidney Disease and needing a transplant. She also battles heart disease, and at age 46 in 2012, she suffered a heart attack. In addition, she has brittle bone disease, also known as renal osteodystrophy, which makes her bones extremely fragile, painful, and prone to fractures. Despite all these challenges, she kept pushing forward, determined to be there for her family and community.
Recently, everything has taken a turn for the worse. Lidia had a serious fall that left her with multiple fractures, including her clavicle, sternum, and spine. After being hospitalized for over a week, her health has been rapidly declining. She is now bedridden and can no longer work, which means she lost her source of income for rent. She needs to start at-home dialysis because she is too weak to go to the dialysis center. She cannot do anything without assistance such as walk anymore, shower, or even sit up without help.
We are now facing housing instability while trying to care for her, and the reality is overwhelming. The funds raised will be used to cover medical costs, equipment for assistance, housing expenses, and providing stability for Lidia as she receives at-home dialysis and recovers from her injuries.
If you know my mom, you know how much love she’s given to everyone around her. She has spent her life taking care of others — and now she needs help. Anything you can give, share, or support with means more than I can put into words. Thank you for being part of her story.
