Support Libby's Brave Battle Against Breast Cancer
Donation protected
My name is Erin Shibley and I am creating this on behalf of my mother, Libby who is bravely battling Stage 3 Breast Cancer. Please take a moment to read her story and consider making a donation to lessen the burden of her costly medical bills. She is a mother to 4, a grandmother to 1, a loving daughter, sister, neighbor, and friend.
Earlier this year, my mother found a lump in her breast that grew rapidly. She went to see 3 different doctors and after weeks of tests, was told that she had stage 3 breast cancer. She was originally told that she’d be able to have a surgery to remove the tumor and have a few rounds of chemo afterwards to ensure all traces of the tumor were gone. She went into pre-op testing a few weeks later, but the size of the tumors had grown too big too rapidly, and they were no longer able to operate. She immediately was scheduled for 16 weeks (8 rounds) of intense chemotherapy, hopeful to be able to have the surgery at the end of it. When she went in for her first round of chemo, they found and infection and had to again delay the start of her treatment. She spent 2 weeks fighting this infection before actually being able to start her rounds of chemo. The next 16 weeks were BRUTAL. She has lost all of her hair, feels sick each and every day, has weakened to the point that short walks take all of her energy…. It’s been a true test of her mental and physical health. She dislocated her shoulder attempting to do the simplest task of taking out the trash. The chemo has affected her bones to such great lengths that her teeth have started to become loose, become infected with cavities, and even fall out. I’m telling you all of this detail so that you can understand how terrible her quality of life has become. And through it all, she has had nothing but a positive attitude. She is defiant and still attempts to take out the trash (against our begs for her not to!)
Her double mastectomy is finally on the calendar for next Thursday the 21st, and a long road to recovery. She will be having another round of chemotherapy afterwards, and a second surgery scheduled for the spring of 2025. Obviously, through all of this she had ot be able to work as she once could, and has become a large financial worry for her as well.
Please consider donating what you can and are able to. Please share our story so that it may touch others. I don’t even know what to set my “goal” to be as I’m not sure anything could truly be enough. This already feels like the longest journey of our lives, and we’re truly just in the beginning.
Thank you!
