Hello, my name is Liam Risdon. Growing up, I always had a dream to own a motorcycle. Seeing the practice tests of riders on the weekends in empty parking lots, or playing with models.
When I finally came of the age and financial position to finance a vehicle, I turned my vision to a motorcycle as my past had suggested to me. I saw it as a perfect form of transport that balanced prices of gas to the mile and speed through acceleration.
But during the process of paperwork (with my grandmother by my side), the salesperson lied about blanket insurance just to make the sale. I had planned to purchase my own insurance the following Wednesday--under the assumption from my grandmother and I, that I would be fine to ride with defaulted insurance for the month, or until I was able to find my own as promised. The night I obtained the bike, I crashed. And through the decision of the police who appeared on the scene, I wasn't even offered a citation.
I did research the following morning, after coming back from the hospital to find the policy that the salesperson had mentioned, only to discover I was never covered as they had claimed. I submitted a crash report on my own volition to the DMV, forced to report that I was 'technically' uninsured.
A month following the incident, I received a letter from the DMV stating that my license is to be suspended. Following the crash, my insurance rates have skyrocketed, and I have to continue paying off the vehicle. Without being allowed to drive, because the DMV never got to hear the whole story, I am unable to make it to work to pay off this mistake--nor will I be able to attend my first year of college.
My only lifeline would be the registration for a Hardship Permit, which requires the filing of an SR-22, which would raise my insurance rates from $500-$5000 a month. Wherever that true number falls, leaves it impossible for me to pay off each month while still dealing with the payments for the motorcycle.
So I've turned here in hopes that I may be able to gain the funds to pay off the bike, and hopefully be able to file the SR-22 so I can remain employed and be able to move forward with my education.
